MUSIC MAGIC [1978]

The album was another Easter or Birthday or Christmas gift for HERC from his parents who continue to support his music obsession to this day.  Music Magic is a cross-over rich album that unfortunately only features seven Top 10 hits on the Pop chart as well as seven songs that missed the Top 20 which will severely hamper its score on the K-Tel Scale.  On the plus side, the album features at least one #1 song on six of the seven charts cited; only failing to sport a #1 Adult Contemporary hit.  At the time (1978), the album had a lot of his favorite songs with the weakest songs in the collection being those by Diana Ross, El Coco and Meco.  A funny thing to watch and listen for in the video above is what the announcer says when Eric Carmen's name goes scrolling by at :29.

As expected, after running the album's tracks through the K-Tel Scale, Music Magic barely scored a 26. Just for ffun, HERC swapped out the the Pop and CB columns to see how the score would be affected as the Pop Chart is the primary basis of the K-Tel Scale, accounting for the overwhelming majority of the score. The result after the switcheroo?  A score of 27.24 with eight songs making the Top 10 including four Number Ones.  Neither score is good enough to break into the Top 10 K-Tel Scale Rankings as both scores are below the current average score of 28.75 after 26 U.S. K-Tel albums.

Up north in Canada, Music Magic was released as a double-album with just seventeen tracks spread across four sides of vinyl. Eight of the songs were carried over* to the American version  though the other eight are a strange blend of US hits and required by law Canadian artists.
