SUPERHITS OF THE SUPERSTARS [1975]

From 1975, Superhits of the Superstars is the first double album featured here on K-Tel Kollection.  If one K-Tel album has 20 songs, a double should logically have 40 songs, right? Wrong.  Adding two more sides of vinyl to the equation yields just six more songs this time out. Furthermore, most of the songs have been featured previously on other albums from the company, making this one sort of a greatest hits of K-Tel compilation. Twenty-five of the album's twenty-six songs made the Top 40, with eight of those rising all the way to the top.

Both Stealers Wheel and Disco Tex and the Sex-O-Lettes each score two songs apiece (above) on Superhits of the Superstars.  The album begins and ends with the two keyboard players featured in clips from The Midnight Special below:

Up in Canada, they shortened the album's name to simply Superstars.  K-Tel also shortened the album by two songs, leaving twenty-four songs.  Between them, the two albums shared just eight songs. Like its U.S. counterpart, Superstars featured songs that had been on previous K-Tel albums.  Before we get to the album's K-Tel Scale scorecard, here's a HERC favorite from Superstars:
