The SEALS & CROFTS COLLECTION [1979]

Those of you tuning in expecting to see a different album, I apologize but there have been a few technical difficulties acquiring suitable artwork for the next chronological album as promised the last time out.  The search continues.  Please accept this picture-packed entry as a small token of my gratitude for your time.

K-Tel sometimes issued single artist compilations outside of the US and by 1979 had issued at least three such albums domestically:

Later in 1979 K-Tel, in conjunction with Warner Special Products, issued The Seals & Crofts Collection, a sixteen track compilation with eight songs from their ten song Greatest Hits album from 1975 and eight others including several released between 1976-1978.  Though the original Greatest Hits album has been released on CD, the group and their label never followed up with an anthology or double disc set of remastered tunes.  By my count, the duo charted thirteen singles on the Adult Contemporary chart and an even dozen on the Hot 100 while placing ten albums on the Top 200 Albums chart.

At one time I owned three Seals & Crofts 45s though only the one pictured above is still in my collection as it is my favorite Seals & Crofts song.  The other two were latter day release Back To Back Hits singles, the kind you want to get when you're stocking your own jukebox or are just a more music for your money kind of shopper.  One was "Summer Breeze" b/w "Hummingbird" and the other was "Diamond Girl" b/w "We May Never Pass This Way (Again)".

The Greatest Hits album was one of my inaugural selections from either Columbia House or RCA circa 1977-1978.  Didn't pick up The Collection until sometime in 1980 or 1981.  Fairly certain the album was in the bargain bin which made it even more of a deal.

Like Axe body spray, decadent brownies or pure-grade heroin, the music of Seals & Crofts is best enjoyed in small doses.  The guys are excellent musicians and songwriters with harmonies both sweet and tight.  But I can only be super mellow sunshine for so long before I need some down & dirty funk or hard & heavy metal to keep the blood flowing.  Except for the one album where they bared the personal and religious beliefs, each of there albums has one or more really good songs and though I had picked up three or four of their CDs through the years it was a no-brainer when Rhino issued the five disc Original Album Series box for Seals & Crofts in May 2015.  Currently, they haven't recorded or performed since 2004's Traces but it and all of their albums are available on Spotify.
