REFLECTIONS [1979]

For the first K-tel album featured from 1979, HERC offers up Reflections.  Featuring sixteen of Today's Love Hits, this is one of those K-Tel albums that will not show a lot of crossover action on the charts. The exception will be the AC chart where these songs should fare really well, like Top 10 well.  HERC's favorite track on the album is Toby's Beau's "My Angel Baby", one that he has slow-danced cheek-to-cheek to with MRS. HERC on more than one occasion.

HERC was right - all but one of the sixteen songs crossed over to the Top 10 7 on the AC chart.  The hold-out?  Natalie Cole's flirty "I've Got Love On My Mind" which only managed to hit #45 on the Adult Contemporary chart.  But look at the paltry crossover numbers on the R&B and Country charts; a measly four tracks although three of them were chart-toppers.  The main problem with this album's K-tel Scale score was the lack of Top 10 Pop songs.  It's not a fluke either as switching in the Cashbox (CB) rankings for the Billboard Hot 100 (Pop) only brings the score up a point and some change: 30.57.  We'll have to see what the ultimate authority on soft rock tunes, the soft rock kid™ says.
The album was released on eight-track with a slightly reconfigured track selection but HERC's research failed to turn up a cassette version or a Canadian edition. HERC did find out that the Reflections title is one that K-tel would reuse, later on in 1985, but since that album is out of the Kollection's stated range of 1973-1983, it will only be considered as a request. Sometime in 2015. If someone can produce a vinyl example of the title. During the Full Moon. Fans of the soft rock genre should definitely tune back in for the next chapter in the K-Tel Kollection. It's more of Today's Love Hits; another soft rock collection entitled Together.

  1. A strong collection for sure, hampered only by the inclusion of Feelings. But a double dose of Manilow along with the sublime classic "Where is the Love?" more than make up for it. Other SRK favorites include "Bluer Than Blue" and "On and On"
